StudioNSW was yesterday named the winner of the Hamar Biannual Architectural Award for the transformation and refurbishment of the old Melkefabrikken (‘Milk Factory’) building.
The building contains 6.200 m2 of factory space, the first phase of which stems from 1850. There was food production in the building until 2008. The wonderful factory chimney is still an important landmark in the City of Hamar.
Greater parts of the old brick factory not only provide important historical links, but also appear in visual harmony with the new and contrasting materials.
A great variety of new functions now occupy the building, from photo and film production to IT and biotechnology. The project has been developed in close collaboration with real estate developer UPL (Utstillingsplassen Eiendom).
