The Planning Committee in Trondheim unanimously voted in favour of NSW’s proposal for revitalising an important city block. The City Conservation officer and the Planning Department supported the idea of revitalising this city block, but would not allow more than one escape door to be inserted into the old Telegraph building, fronting the main street, Kongens gate. NSWs proposal included three doors, breaking down the barrier between the building and the street. The wide pavement in front of the Telegraph building is ‘crying out’ for more life and has gradually been drained of activities over a period. The unanimous political decision will hopefully not only reverse this trend, but also become the long awaited catalyst, encouraging a better mix of activities, thus resulting in a more vibrant city life.
