In 2015 NSW won a limited competition for the development of the area along the railway station in Drammen. Being one of the principal public transport nodes outside Oslo, Strømsø is to be transformed into a multifunctional urban area with higher density and more housing, workspaces as well as public functions than is the case today.
The first face of realisation of new build in this transformation area will be the 14 storey Drammen Quality Hotel. The building will comprise 13.000 m² and 249 comfortable guestrooms, including conference and meeting room facilities for 500 people. At street level, the hotel wiill provides street orientated public functions.
Fronting the Drammen river, the building will be visible from all directions as Drammen’s new landmark. This will be the first building to be realised within the new zoning plan, also produced by NSW. The completed plan will make an important contribution to bringing more city life into the transformation area along Dr. Hansteins gate.
