About

Joana Pinheiro has a PhD in Architectural Design with the Doctoral Thesis “The Wall as architectural reference”. The thesis proposes the Wall as an element with the conceptual identity that makes it able to direct the architectural form, serving as a design instrument in the synthesis of different variables of the project for the actions of articulation, emplacement, referencing and conformation in space.

Joana is currently the project leader for the Mattilsynet -Veterinaer Grensekontrollstasjon new building in the Oslo airport. She has been part of a big scale dwellings project in Franzefoss, Sandvika and the Rehabilitation of a NTNU building in Trondheim, among other works. She has architectural work experience since 2001 within Spain, Portugal and Brazil, assuming various roles and responsibilities in collaboration with different offices, among them Paulo Mendes da Rocha, São Paulo. The range of architectural design includes various typologies of new buildings, renovations and competitions. Simultaneously she has developed several projects on authorship, in Portugal and Spain, in a scope that goes from dwellings to landscape design of public green parks.
