NSW Arkitektur has won a competition to provide office accommodation for 215 government employees in the Agder County Governor (Fylkesmann) administration. The winning design was developed in collaboration with the City of Arendal, EiPro as project manager and Skanska. The building will be situated at the top of Fløyheia, the most spectacular site in Arendal with commanding views over the city. An important and integral part of the design is the provision of elevators bringing you up through the rocks, from the city floor. The elevators will be directly accessed through a tunnel from the Market Place at one end and from the Railway Station at the other. Central government approval is to be granted before work can proceed.
The NSW design has great focus on environmental and interior design (ABW – Activity Based Working), as well as urban design. The latter relates to the building being the catalyst for the new but central city district ‘Fløybyen’, an urban design competition won by NSW in 2016.
