Svolvær is the capital of Lofoten in northern Norway and is getting a new town plan. Svolvær is quite unique, situated on some longitudinal islands and surrounded by spectacular mountains.
The plan debate has so far focused mainly on the height of buildings to come, rather than urban qualities and the spectacular scenery.
NSW Arkitektur has, thorough its office in Svolvær, entered into the discussion through the design of a new piece of jewelry; depicting the city as a jewel. It invites a discussion focusing on the inherent and unique landscape qualities of the town, rather than just building heights and other quantifiable measures.
The Town Jewelry was presented in the local newspaper Våganavisa this week.
