The former airport terminal was restructured. Floordecks were removed to let light into the depth of the building and spatially connecting the various levels. New servicing cores were introduced cutting through the existing structure creating a new order and and rythm in the building. The key feature of the main meeting place in the building is a red wall 60 m long and 8 m tall punctuated by windows of varying shapes and sizes – inspired by old fashioned punch cards. The external skin is mainly restored, apart from new entrances and a cut in the former airport pier where the facade is shaped like a picture frame displaying the inner life of the building. The new plant rooms are designed to float above the existing roof, they have a translucent glazing and lit from within acting as “light houses” which signals the new use of the building as an IT centre. A preservation order has been placed on the old departure hall and main restaurant . This has been meticulously restored back to its original design
